The Role

 

The regional controller is an integral member of the management team, reporting directly to the Headlands Research corporate controller and partnering regularly with operations. The role’s primary responsibility is to oversee the entire finance and accounting function for multiple clinical trials site locations (3-4 sites with opportunity to increase as sites are added), including but not limited to monthly revenue forecasting, accounting, monthly financial close, monthly financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and AP oversite. The Regional Controller is one several peer roles across the organization who support other clinical trials site locations in the overall Headlands Research network. The role will assist in ensuring a strong internal control environment and compliance with company policies and US GAAP. 

This is a remote role with regular working hours – including regular meetings held via electronic platforms.

This role does not have any direct reports. Rather, this role is situated in a matrixed organization- accounts receivable, accounts payable and limited general ledger support are provided centrally.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly accounting and reporting process for sites supported
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages submitted to executive management
  • Perform monthly revenue forecasting for all active clinical trials at site
  • Actively engage with site operations to understand and influence revenue levers
  • Provide budget to actual analysis for monthly financial results, including detailed analysis of budget to actual and forecast to actual revenues by study
  • Present monthly financial results to executive management in monthly operations meeting
  • Partner with regional and site operations management teams, providing guidance and support on day-to-day accounting matters
  • Perform the annual budget process with site directors
  • Perform financial analysis as required to support the business
  • Perform accounting function for sites within NetSuite cloud-based accounting system under accrual method accounting in accordance with US GAAP, including preparing and/or posting journal entries
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Monitor, and participate where needed, in the accounts receivable and collection processes led by central billing and collections team
  • Maintain ongoing reconciliations between the AR sub-system and the general ledger
  • Oversee the accounts payable function including the annual 1099 process
  • Oversee any accounting processes performed centrally on behalf of assigned sites
  • Oversee cash management using online banking for sites supported- including remitting excess funds
  • Maintain and manage the site’s fixed asset module
  • Assist any newly acquired sites in their onboarding process to Headlands Research
  • Provide support for audit, tax, and other information as requested
  • Assist staff with training and development
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role, with at least three years of experience in a management level position
  • Experience managing financials for multiple business units preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Hands on experience through the full accounting cycle of a business unit
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with non-accounting professionals
  • Must have strong system and excel skills
  • Team player
  • Experience supervising/managing staff – whether direct or in a matrixed organization
  • Infrequent travel required
